Kolkata: Rujira, a wife of West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee's nephew MP Abhishek Banerjee, has refused to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the coal scam case. Rujira is also accused of money laundering. Rujira has pretended to be a coronavirus by refusing to appear. She has written to the investigating agency said that she will not be able to travel during the corona epidemic.

In a letter sent to the assistant director of ED, Rujira has written that she has two young children and travelling to Delhi amidst the corona epidemic could endanger her and her children. Abhishek Banerjee's wife has written in this letter that there is an office of ED in Kolkata and the investigating agency can come and interrogate her at the residence if she wants. He has also written in the letter that according to the information, the matter is outside West Bengal. Earlier, CBI questioned Rujira in the coal scam case. CBI had gone to Abhishek Banerjee's house ahead of the West Bengal assembly elections. At the same time, Rujira's sister was also questioned.

The ED had summoned Abhishek and his wife for questioning in the coal smuggling case. Rujira Banerjee was summoned to the ED's office in Delhi on September 1 and Abhishek Banerjee on September 6. ED has also summoned Abhishek's lawyer Sanjay Basu for questioning in the Pinkan case. The investigating agency has also summoned two senior IPS officers of West Bengal Police Shyam Singh and Gyanwant Singh on September 8 and 9.
