State Medical and Family Welfare Minister Ma Subramaniam said that Coimbatore district tops the state in vaccinating the highest percentage of eligible population against COVID-19. He said after inaugurating the second mega vaccination camp. Tamil Nadu has vaccinated 16,43,879 people in the second mega vaccination camp. The first camp was organized on September 12 and 28.91 lakh people got the vaccine against the target of 20 lakh, the health department said in a press release on Sunday. According to the health department, "Second camp was organized from 7 am to 7 pm on Sunday, September 19 and 16,43,879 (16.43 lakh) people were vaccinated."

Addressing reporters in Pollachi, the Minister of Family Welfare said that out of 29,27,149 population above 18 years of age in the district, 75% had received their first dose while 25% had received both the doses. The minister also said that the Coimbatore administration has done a good job in checking the number of COVID-19 cases in the district.

He said the tireless efforts of the Tamil Nadu Health Department and stringent preventive measures taken by the government in setting up check posts in the border areas with Kerala ensured that Nipah and Zika virus could not enter the state. Noting that even after precautions and strict measures, Kerala was reporting more than 20,000 cases in a day, he said that visitors from Kerala have to show RT-PCR negative certificate at the check post and those without certificate. People are sent back.
