Cold wave continues in J&K, temperature falling continuously

Jammu: Cold wave conditions continue to intensify in Jammu and Kashmir. The temperature has dropped to minus 8.7 degrees Celsius at Pahalgam, the base camp of Shri Amarnath Yatra. Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 6.0 degrees Celsius for the second consecutive day. However, jammu district has witnessed a slight improvement in the minimum temperature. The minimum temperature was recorded at 2.8 degrees Celsius last night.

Power has already been lost due to strike by power employees. The problem of people suffering even before the cold has increased due to non-running of room heaters, blowers etc. In the severe cold wave, Gulmarg is second only to Pahalgam. The minimum temperature has been recorded at 7.5 degrees Celsius. Qazigund recorded a temperature of minus 6.5 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Batot in Jammu division has dropped further. It recorded a temperature of minus 2.1 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature has been recorded at 2.8 degree Celsius at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi's base camp Katra. According to Meteorological Centre Srinagar, the cold wave is likely to intensify as the temperature drops further for the next three days in the state.  With snowfall and rain in many areas from December 22 to 25, people may get light relief from the severe cold.
