BHUBANESWAR On charges of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MMC), the Odisha government has suspended a college principal and a Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) for the next Panchayat election.
Bikash Chandra Das, principal of Maa Tarini Higher Secondary School in Mahakalapada, Kendrapara district, and Prasanta Majhi, SDPO of Salipur, were both suspended on Wednesday for allegedly holding a public meeting on the campus of the college.
On Tuesday, the Kendrapara sub-collector and the Home Department issued two orders suspending Das and Majhi indefinitely. The State Election Commission (SEC) recommended that both be suspended, according to officials.
In addition, the college principal has been charged with violating the model code of conduct and Covid-19 principles by allegedly allowing a public meeting in his college. The FIR was filed by the Mahakalapara tahasildar. Following an inquiry, the SEC recommended the State government suspend the principal and police officer on Tuesday, when a video of the public meeting in the college surfaced in the media. The duo's officials are also said to have attended the meeting.
