New Delhi: In the past, Indian Olympic Association president Narinder Batra had launched a big attack on the Commonwealth Games. Batra described the Commonwealth Games as 'low level'. The Commonwealth Federation rejected his statement and said that this game is more relevant than before and India has to play an important role in it. CGF chief executive David Gravemberg said he would visit India in November and only then would India's concerns be removed if shooting was eliminated in the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
On this tour, Gravemberg will be accompanied by CGF President Louis Martin. When asked about Batra's statement, Gravemberg said, 'India's tour in November is very important for us. Our focus is to give more opportunities to Indian athletes. Our vision will be to respect, listen, learn and contribute. We are waiting to meet our colleagues and friends in India.
Batra said, 'We believe that the modern Commonwealth and Commonwealth Games movement is now more relevant than ever and India has to play an important role in it. Speaking at an event in Bengaluru, IOA President Batra said that the level of competition in the Commonwealth Games is not so high and India should consider moving away from it to improve its standards. He asked to boycott Birmingham after removing shooting from the 2022 Commonwealth Games schedule.
