Company warns 1.7 million users as web sync service of Opera hacked

Opera, the well famous Norway based mobile web browser has established that hackers had gained access to the company’s sync system, exposing user passwords.

The browser owner also claims that, “this attack was quickly blocked and investigations are going on. Opera believes that some data, including a few sync users’ passwords and account information, such as login names, may have been compromised”

As per the company’s blogpost mentions, “We have also sent emails to all Opera sync users to inform them about the incident and ask them to change the password for their Opera sync accounts. In an abundance of caution, we have encouraged users to also reset any passwords to third party sites they may have synchronized with the service.”

Opera stated that the total active number of users of Opera sync in the last month is 1.7 million, less than 0.5 percent of the total Opera user base of 350 million people.

Meanwhile, the remaining Opera browser users who do not use Opera sync need not need take any actions.
