Complaint Filed Against Mani Shankar Aiyar's Daughter for controversial post over Ram Mandir Ceremony

New Delhi: Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar's daughter, Suranya Aiyar, is facing a complaint filed by Supreme Court advocate and BJP leader Ajay Agarwal for her social media post on January 20, criticizing the 'Pran Pratishtha' of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on January 22.

The complaint, lodged on Saturday at Delhi's Cyber Crime Police station, accuses Suranya Aiyar of making "objectionable remarks" on various social media platforms against the consecration ceremony of Ram Lalla at the temple. Agarwal urged the authorities to register an FIR under section 153-A (for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) and other relevant sections of the IPC.

On January 19, Suranya Aiyar had announced on Facebook her intention to observe a three-day fast starting January 22, in support of what she described as the plight of "Muslims of India" against actions taken "in the name of Hinduism and nationalism in Ayodhya."

Her post sparked controversy, leading the Resident Welfare Association (RWA) of Delhi’s Jangpura to write a detailed letter to Mani Shankar Aiyar and his daughter, urging them to leave the colony for allegedly disturbing peace and harmony.

In response, Suranya Aiyar claimed in a Facebook video that the concerned RWA was not associated with her residing colony.

Mani Shankar Aiyar, her father and a senior Congress leader, also criticized the Ram Temple inauguration, suggesting that the absence of the four shankaracharyas at the consecration ceremony would prove costly for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The RWA called on the senior Congress leader to condemn his daughter's statements, emphasizing that it is not in good taste for the colony and society as a whole.
