Completing an MOT test in the Coronavirus pandemic

With the coming in of the coronavirus pandemic, there were a lot of changes taking place in with UK economy. Not only were more people unemployed, but according to Government rules, people had to stay indoors and work from home to avoid catching the virus. These changes meant that people with vehicles that needed to go through the MOT test could not take the test or would put themselves in danger if they did. Taking all of this into consideration, the Government allowed people to defer their MOT test by a couple of months to avoid leaving their homes. There were specific rules had to be followed for this to happen.

1. Only people with their MOT expiring between 31st March and 30th July were allowed to defer their tests
2. All people with cars either with completed MOT tests or deferred them had to have their vehicles roadworthy otherwise they would face additional fines and penalties.

While people were allowed to defer their MOT tests by about six months, if they wanted to get their MOT registered, they could choose to do. Car repair shops and many MOT service centres were open during the pandemic since they were considered essential services. The main reason for this was people, and the registration centres were finding it challenging to keep up with the MOT tests since there were a large number of people going through them. Additionally, after delaying them for several months, it only seemed logical that there would be a large number of people going through the test again.

To make the process convenient, people could now book MOT online and show up on the date that they needed their car tested. All the information about the vehicle leading back to 2005 was available online so garages and vehicles owners alike could go through it and know the changes to be made when they were handling their vehicle tests. Furthermore, they could see the repairs that they did on their vehicles in the previous years and the fixes that they needed to take care of before going through the test again.

People who are taking their cars in for the tests have to check them at a garage before to make sure they are in good condition. Failing the MOT and applying again is not an ideal solution since cars cannot ply on the road if they failed an MOT test. Several vehicles are more likely to fail the MOT test as compared to others. They renewed the MOT test several years back, and more than 10 million vehicles didn't get through the test, which is a third of all cars in the UK. These were vehicles marked dangerous and critical issues.

The MOT is a mandatory, annual test that vehicles that have completed three years have to go through. It is a requirement that all cars, bike and trucks have to clear the test if they are to ply on the roads in the UK. Get your vehicle checked at the garage and book MOT as soon as you are a month away from your current MOT test expiring.
