HYDERABAD: YSRCP president YS Jaganmohan Reddy has got on to the government formation mode in Andhra Pradesh. Despite the efforts of Chief Minister and TDP national president N. Chandrababu Naidu to reduce the polling percentage, more than 80% of the voters exercised their franchise indicating a “landslide” victory for the YSR Congress Party, said its president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Jaganmohan Reddy squarely blamed TDP president and AP chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu for the violence, in which two YSRCP workers were killed and one critically injured. “Chandrababu Naidu has behaved like a ‘rakshasudu’ (demon) and resorted to attacks and violence only because he himself knew very well that he would be defeated in the polls,” he said. Jagan said people themselves have protected democracy and not fallen prey to Naidu’s words in the elections and voted for YSRCP. “This man has stooped down to a very low level. He threatens the Election Commission, comments on EVMs, tried to prevent polling, and resorted to violence. Is it right for somebody to do that?” he said.

In Chilakaluripet, Minister Prathipati Pulla Rao and in Mangalagiri, Minister Lokesh violated the election code, he alleged. He said there were attacks on MLAs and candidates of YSRCP at several places and a large number of them were hurt. In Anantapur, the group of JC Diwakar Reddy attacked a YSRCP worker Pulla Reddy and hacked him to death, he said. Jagan said in Chittoor, a YSRCP worker Venkatrayappa Reddy was killed in an attack by TDP workers.

The results of the elections will be known on May 23. Asked if he was thinking of the nitty-gritty of government formation since he was confident of the party coming to power, Jagan said: “I want to chill now. I would like to go on holiday first.” On the high polling percentage, Mr. Jagan said, “It is a positive sign for us (YSRCP),” and added that it would be a “landslide win” for his party.
