New Delhi [India], Aug 8 (NT): BK Hariprasad on Wednesday is nominated as Congress party's contender for the Rajya Sabha deputy chairperson's post and in his claim he said that his candidature has the support of the opposition parties. The Rajya Sabha polls for the post of its Deputy Chairman will be held on August 9.
Hariprasad told the leading news agency ANI that the Congress will talk with the opposition parties and will then decide their further course of action.
Worth mention here as for now the name of Nationalist Congress Party's Vandana Chavan was tipped to be the opposition's consensus nominee for the post.
Bahujan Samaj Party's (BSP) Satish Mishra and Trinamool Congress' Derek o Brien proposed Chavan's name for the most dignitary post, as media news buzzed
On a related note the post of the Deputy Chairman of RS has been lying vacant since June after the retirement of Congress leader PJ Kurien.
Harivansh Narayan Singh is expected to be the National Democratic Alliance's candidate for the post of Janata Dal (United) leader.
According to government circular the nomination papers will have to be filed before noon on August 8.The elections will be held on the second last day of the monsoon session of Parliament i.e.; on August 9.
