In Andhra Pradesh, the Congress has alleged that the YS Jaganmohan Reddy-led YSR Congress government is planning to demolish the Rajiv Smriti Bhawan in Visakhapatnam. The building is a memorial to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. After demolishing Praja Vedika (a hall adjacent to former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's residence), the state government accused Naidu and his Party-Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of making this illegal construction.

The Congress accused Jaganmohan Reddy of using revenge politics to attack the opposition. Built in 2008, Rajiv Smriti Bhawan is a monument and cultural centre. Before his assassination at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu, Rajiv Gandhi had spent a day in Visakhapatnam. Moreover, it also serves as a centre of classical and Karnataka music.

Senior Congress leader and close ally of Rajiv Gandhi, Hanumantha Rao said the new government led by YS Jaganmohan Reddy is playing "politics" to "destroy" the opposition in Andhra Pradesh. "He [Reddy] was chosen by the people to do the welfare of the state. But what is this demolition in the people's terrace, the party offices and now the Rajiv Smriti Bhawan? During the tenure of his father (late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy), I used my MPLAD fund to keep the monument alive. Now, what is he doing [Jaganmohan Reddy]? Hanuman Rao said, "I have warned him that he will have to kill me first, only then he will be able to demolish Rajiv Gandhi's monument." Rajivji loved Andhra Pradesh, its people, including Jaganmohan Reddy's father YSR. "
