Congress alleges Modi's love for farmers a sham

Lucknow: The grand old Congress party on Monday dubbed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's love and apprehension for farmers as a sham. It alleged that the agriculture sector was in crisis even as the PM Modi led union government was dishing out forged claims.

 Spokesman of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) Priyanka Gupta lashed out and talked about  a recent incident where a potato farmer in Agra got Rs 490 against a sale of 19,000 kg of his produce, She claimed that it exposed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) governments.

According to her Farmers are neck-deep in debts but both the state and union governments were seeking the other way.

The leader of Rahul Gandhi led Congress also highlighted the "unprecedented plight" of the sugarcane growers in western Uttar Pradesh.She said that the arrears were not being paid.

 

Gupta also said that UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had said that all arrears would be cleared by November 30, 2018, but this has not happened and farmers consequentially are not being able to pay power bills and the power department who are cutting their connections and sending them recovery notices.

She also pointed that the growing incidences of suicides by farmers. She said that be it farmers of tomato, potato or any other crop they are suffering massive losses due to the  error less policies and indifference of the governments.
