Lucknow: The Congress party is going to hold a big meeting in Delhi today over the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. The names of some candidates may also be sealed in the meeting chaired by interim Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Meanwhile, interim Congress President Sonia Gandhi is likely to direct the Central Election Committee on the selection of potential candidates.

In fact, assembly elections are due in UP after a few months and the Congress had started preparing for it long ago. Congress has also decided the names of some candidates in the state so far. Meanwhile, applications for contesting elections in the Congress have started and these applications will be placed before the screening committee and since then the names will be sealed by the Congress high command. Former party national president Rahul Gandhi and Congress general secretary and UP in-charge Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are also reportedly likely to be present at the meeting at Sonia Gandhi's residence. Because the command of UP is in the hands of Priyanka Gandhi.

It is being reported that the names of candidates may be decided in some seats in the meeting and the Congress wants to leave no stone unturned in the preparations for the elections. Priyanka Gandhi's activation in the state is believed to have brought enthusiasm to the workers. At present, party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has announced 40 per cent of tickets for women in UP. Which is considered to be a big election stunt of the Congress. So the party may discuss the names of potential women candidates.
