Congress government's major decision ahead of code of conduct removes, Punjab DGP from office

Amritsar: Just hours before the code of conduct for the assembly elections in Punjab, the Congress government of the state has replaced DGP (Director General of Police) Siddharth Chattopadhyay and appointed VK Bhavra as the new DGP. Let us tell you that even in the case of PM Modi's security lapse, questions were being raised on the DGP. In fact, even before the election code of conduct came into force in the state, the Punjab government had sent the names of IPS officers to the UPSC panel.

Of these, VK Bhavra has been made the new DGP. VK Bhavra is a 1987 batch IPS officer. He has also served as Vigilance Chief. In fact, with the change of CM in Punjab, Dinkar Gupta, a close aide of Captain Amarinder Singh, had come to know that he would be removed from the post of DGP, that is why he had gone on leave. After this, IPS Sahota was given additional charge as the first working DGP, but after the pressure of Navjot Singh Sidhu, the Channi government bowed down and made Sidhu's special IPS Siddharth Chattopadhyay as DGP.

Siddharth Chattopadhyay's name was not included in the three names approved by the state government, which was sent to UPSC by the state government, that is why, a few hours before the code of conduct, the Congress government hastened to VK Bhanra. Punjab's new DGP has been made. If the Punjab government had not decided the name of the DGP before the implementation of the Code of Conduct, the Election Commission would have lost the right to appoint a DGP.
