Shah Jahanpur: Rahul Gandhi resigned as party president on May 25 after the Congress suffered a severe setback in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Even after two-and-a-half months, the party is yet to find a new chairman. In between, all efforts were made to persuade Rahul Gandhi, but he did not change his stand. In Uttar Pradesh, Shahjahanpur Congress leader Ayub Ali has submitted his candidature for the post of President.

He has also submitted a letter of claim to UPA Chairman Sonia Gandhi. Congress leader Ayub Ali has also claimed that he will be the next national president of the Congress. He had filed his nomination for the post of Speaker last time. He has served as the State Coordinator of the Congress in UP. The Congress party is also likely to convene a working committee meeting today.

The meeting is likely to discuss the name of the Congress chief as well as the differences in the party over Section 370. While veteran leaders like Digvijay Singh, Ghulam Nabi Azad are opposing it, many young leaders are welcoming the government's decision.
