Dehradun: Punjab Congress in-charge Harish Rawat has apologized for his statement comparing Punjab party functionaries to "Panj Pyare." With this, He cleaned the devotee's shoes and swept the floor of Nanakmatta Gurudwara near Khatima in Udham Singh Nagar in Uttarakhand on Friday. Harish Rawat, as per the tradition of the Sikh community, had his head covered and was serving.

State that 'service' means 'selfless service' and involves helping others in various ways without any reward or personal gain. For Sikhs, this is a way of showing their faith in God. On September 1, Harish Rawat compared Navjot Sidhu and his team to "Panj Pyare," a word of great reverence for Sikhs. After which there was a protest.

Addressing the media, Harish Rawat had said on Wednesday that he would clean the floor at a gurudwara in Uttarakhand to atone for his mistake. At the same time, he said that I used that word (Panj Pyare) as a reference to the respected person. Nevertheless, if my words have hurt one's feelings, I apologize and withdraw my words. For atonement, I will sweep the floor of a gurdwara.
