NEW DELHI: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi's emergence in national politics, Congress has gone into a trough. The party, which has a tough stance on PM Modi, has not been able to come up with a concrete strategy to beat him. Now the party's methods are being questioned from within the Congress. Former minister and Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that the model of PM Modi's rule is not a "completely negative saga" and not accepting the importance of his work and presenting him as a villain at all times is not going to give any result.

Jairam Ramesh said on Wednesday that it is the time we understand the importance of Modi's work and what he did between 2014 and 2019, which led him to return to power. That is why 30 per cent of the electorate returned to power. In the Lok Sabha elections 2019, the BJP got 37.4 per cent of the votes, while the ruling NDA got 45 per cent of the votes. He said this while releasing political analyst Kapil Satish Comireddy's book "The Melivalent Republic: A Short History of the New India".

"Prime Minister Modi speaks in a language that connects him with people," Ramesh said. Unless we assume that he is doing things that the people are appreciating and what has not been done before, we will not be able to compete with this man. He warned, "At the same time, if you are going to present him as a villain at all times, you will not be able to compete with them." Jairam Ramesh is a Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka.
