The election may soon be held in the Rajya Sabha for the Deputy Chairman post. Former party president Sonia Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel has met Mamata Banerjee to support the party candidate for the post of deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

A news website source said that on Sunday evening, between Patel and Mamta Banerjee, there was a discussion for about one hour in New Delhi. It is being seen as an attempt by the Congress to gain support for the party candidate.

This post is currently with Rajya Sabha MP PJ Kurien from Kerala. Congress has not chosen Kurien for the second term. It is clear, therefore, that the party wants to pick another candidate of its choice for the post.
Vice President of India is the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. Members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha elect vice-president (chairman of Rajya Sabha), while the vice-president is elected by members of the Rajya Sabha only.

The BJP's largest party in the Lok Sabha is looking forward to forming its own candidate for the post of deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha. The policy commission was held in Delhi on Sunday. During this meeting, there was a discussion between non-Congress opposition leaders. It seems that they want to use this election to bring Najn Patnaik's Biju Janata Dal (BJD) together for expansion of non-NDA alliance. In the Rajya Sabha, the 9-member of BJD and the six-member of Telangana National Committee have already announced that it will not support the Congress candidate in the Vice-Presidential election.
