Amritsar: After nearly a year of silence, former Punjab minister and Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday attacked the Modi government over agriculture bills. Coming in support of the farmers who are demonstrating, Sidhu said, "Farming is the soul of Punjab and the soul will not tolerate at all."

"Farming is the soul of Punjab. The wounds on the body can heal, but the wounds of the soul doesn't heal soon, and it will not forgive. Sidhu said, "Farming is the pride of every Punjabi, it is their identity," Sidhu asked the farmers to prepare for the struggle against the government. Cricketer-turned-politician Sidhu said, "Governments have been making this mistake all their ages. They had dust on their face, but they kept cleaning the mirror".

Sidhu, who was angry with his own Congress government, last made a statement through Twitter on September 25, 2019. He had said that he had vacated his official bungalow after resigning as a minister from Amarinder Singh-led cabinet. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who hails from Punjab, resigned as food processing industry minister on Thursday in protest against the bill on agriculture.
