New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi has decided to celebrate August 14, 2021, as 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' in memory of the struggle and sacrifice staked by the people during the Indo-Pakistan partition. However, Congress has appeared to be very upset with PM Modi's decision. Senior Congress leader and former Central P Chidambaram opposed the decision and said what will India do if Pakistan celebrates August 15 as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.

P Chidambaram tweeted on Sunday (August 15, 2021) that PM Modi has declared August 14 as Bifurcation Horror Commemoration Day, but the violence and genocide of partition did not take place on the same day. He further wrote what India would do if Pakistan declared August 15 as a 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day'. Chidambaram said India should behave maturely as India and Pakistan are neighboring countries and friends can be changed, but not neighbours.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surajwala had also appeared upset with the decision before Chidambaram. He had said a day earlier that PM Modi shows love for Pakistan when elections are not held. With the Uttar Pradesh elections approaching, PM Modi is preparing for the elections. However, Chidambaram's language looks as if he feared pm Modi's decision hurt Pakistani sentiments.
