Islamabad: Former President and dictator of Pakistan General Pervez Musharraf has passed away at the age of 79. Musharraf was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dubai. After Musharraf's death, a tweet by senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor created a ruckus. Congress leader Tharoor has termed Musharraf as the real power for peace. BJP's national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has attacked Tharoor for this tweet.

Condoling the death of former Pakistan President and dictator Pervez Musharraf, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said on Sunday (February 5) that Musharraf, once a staunch enemy of India, had become a real power for peace between 2002 and 2007. Former President of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf passed away due to a rare disease. Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor further wrote, 'I had met him every year in those days at the United Nations and found him shrewd and clear in his diplomatic views. May God give peace to the departed soul. Now an uproar has arisen over this tweet made by the Congress leader. The BJP has attacked him for his statement.'

BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla wrote in tweeting that, ''Pervez Musharraf, architect of Kargil war, dictator, accused of heinous crimes, who considered Taliban and Osama bin Laden as brothers and heroes, who refused to take back the dead bodies of his own martyred soldiers. He is being praised by Congress. Are you surprised? Once again Congress's Pakism!'' Poonawalla has also shared screen shots of some news along with his tweet.

Poonawalla has said in another tweet that, Pervez Musharraf who had praised Osama bin Laden and the Taliban, had also praised Rahul Gandhi. He called Rahul a gentleman and promised to support him. Perhaps this is the reason why Shashi Tharoor is glorifying the architect of Kargil and a supporter of terrorism. Attacking the Congress, Poonawalla tweeted that, from 370 to the surgical strike, the Congress, which doubted Balakot, is hailing Musharraf, while our own Army Chief was called a road goon by the Congress.

Pervez Musharraf had been the President and Army Chief of Pakistan. He took command of Pakistan by overthrowing the democratic government of Nawaz Sharif in the year 1999 and was the President of Pakistan from June 20, 2001 to August 18, 2008. Terrorist attacks on India increased during Musharraf's tenure. In 2005, Parade magazine included Musharraf in the list of the world's 10 worst dictators.
