New Delhi: Veteran Congress leader and MP from Thiruvananthapuram seat Shashi Tharoor has written a letter to PM Modi and attacked him. In the letter, he said that our democracy gives us the right to criticize someone. In such a situation, it is unfair to view criticism of someone as treason and to file a case against those who do so.
The Congress leader has reacted by tweeting his letter to historians Ramachandra Guha, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and others for filing a case against others writing letters to the central government on mob lynching. He quoted an old speech by PM Modi saying that PM ji, while addressing the US Congress in the year 2016, had called the Constitution of India a holy book. You said that the Constitution of India provides the right to freedom, expression, speech and equality to all citizens.
Referring to Article 19 (1) of the Constitution, Shashi Tharoor writes that everyone has the right to speak and the government should respect that freedom. All people of the country expect PM Modi that his government will respect the freedom to speak. He said that in recent times those who speak against the government are considered as traitors, but doing so cannot strengthen democracy.
