Bangalore: Congress leader and former CM Siddaramaiah have termed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government's attempt to change the name of Indira Canteen as a politics of revenge. Indira Canteen is named after the country's first woman PM Indira Gandhi, which started during the tenure of the Siddaramaiah government.
Senior Karnataka Congress leader Siddaramaiah has hit out at BJP leader CT Ravi's tweet that 'Indira Canteen should be renamed as Annapurna Canteen, as there is no reason why Kannada people should be reminded of the dark days of Emergency (1975) while eating'. This statement by CT Ravi has sparked controversy in Karnataka's politics.
Opposing Ravi's statement, Siddaramaiah said, 'The demand for a change in the name of Indira Canteen is nothing but politics of revenge. There are a lot of programs (names) in the name of BJP leadership. Did we demand to change those names?' Siddaramaiah further said that the tradition of naming roads and government buildings after national leaders is very old.
