New Delhi: After the massive defeat in Lok Sabha election, Congress President Rahul Gandhi took the responsibility and decided to resign from the president post. In a bid to persuade Congress chief Rahul Gandhi to take back his offer to step down in the wake of the party’s debacle in the Lok Sabha Elections 2019, a party leader from Uttar Pradesh has written a letter in blood.

Shailendra Tewari, Uttar Pradesh Congress secretary, in the letter, urged Gandhi to continue to be their leader. He wrote, “Main aapko vishwas dilata hun ki sharir ka eke k katra, khoon ki ek boond Congress ko banane mein laga denge. Humein Rajiv ji ki shahadat ki kasam hai.”

Rahul Gandhi offered to step down on Saturday during a meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC). However, the CWC members unanimously rejected the offer. On Wednesday, Delhi Congress chief and former chief minister Sheila Dikshit led a  protest outside Gandhi's residence, urging him to take back his resignation offer.

Amid a leadership crisis in the Congress, senior leader Mallikarjuna Kharge met party Treasurer Ahmed Patel at the party office earlier today.

Out of 80 Lok Sabha seats in UP, the Congress contested 67 and won only the Rae Bareli seat from where UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi was re-elected.
