NEW DELHI: The Congress will conduct a 'Chintan Shivir' brainstorming session next month, following poll debacles in five states and brewing discontent within the party. The party's CWC will convene before of the session to finalise the agenda.

Senior members of Congress have been meeting on a regular basis to work on the agenda. Senior leaders like Ambika Soni and Mukul Wasnik have been tasked by Sonia Gandhi with finalising the agenda for the Congress Working Committee (CWC) and the Chintan Shivir.

Since dissidents have raised their voices against the party's current functioning, the Chintan Shivir has become necessary. The G-23 is pitted against Rahul Gandhi and his team, even as Sonia Gandhi, the party's interim leader, has met with dissidents to try to heal the schism.

Sonia Gandhi, speaking to the parliamentary party on April 5, said that the party's resurrection was critical for democracy and that the election results were "shocking" and "painful."

"Our dedication and determination, our spirit of resilience is under severe test," she stated in her speech. Unity at all levels of our enormous organisation is critical, and I am committed to do everything it takes to ensure it. Our rebirth isn't only important to us; it's also important for our democracy and, by extension, for our society.
