Kolkata: The second round of talks between the Congress and the left parties for seat division in the West Bengal assembly elections was held on Thursday. Till now, talks have been decided on 193 seats. According to the arrangement so far, the Congress will contest elections on 92 seats, while the left parties will field candidates on 101. The remaining 101 seats will be divided between the parties in the next round of meetings.
The parties had decided on Monday that they will field candidates on the seats respectively won in the 2016 elections. In 2016, the Left-Congress alliance won 77 seats, out of which Congress won 44 seats. Senior Congress leader Pradeep Bhattacharya said, 'Today we have decided that we will keep the respective 44 and 33 seats which the Congress and the left parties won in 2016. Talks are on for the remaining 217 seats. It hoped that by the end of the month, the division of seats will be completed.
Earlier in January, Biman Bose, the chief of the Left Front and a member of the CPI-M Polit Bureau, said that the alliance between the parties should be to defeat the communal force BJP and the fascist TMC (Trinamool Congress)'. The Left leader had said that the alliance will definitely overthrow the current regime in Bengal.
