Congress Meghalaya in-charge Manish Chatrath to reach Shillong

Shillong: Manish Chatrath, the New Delhi Congress's Meghalaya in-charge, will vist to Shillong on Thursday after the Trinamool Congress claimed that 12 Congress MLAs from the state had defected to Mamata Banerjee's party. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) claimed that the 12 MLAs had joined the party after their resignations.

According to sources, as many as 12 of Congress's 17 MLAs in Meghalaya have defected to the Trinamool Congress. According to Trinamool Congress sources, 12 of the 17 Congress MLAs from Meghalaya have joined the party.

Chatrath's visit to Gujarat has been cancelled. "Manish Chatrath has postponed his visit to Surat, Gujarat, tomorrow, where he was due to attend the first death anniversary of late Congress leader Ahmed Patel," sources said.

On November 18, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal convened a conference at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi, attended by Manish Chatrath, to assess the party's performance in the just finished Meghalaya by-polls. Other state leaders who attended the meeting included MPCC President Vincent H Pala, CLP leader Mukul Sangma, MPCC working president M Arnpareen Lyngdoh, Secretary AICC in-charge Manipur Charles Pyngrope, MPCC working presidents Marthon Sangma and James Lyngdoh, and Secretary AICC in-charge Manipur Charles Pyngrope.
