Panaji: Goa has been the victim of political upheavals in recent times. There was a huge split in the opposition Congress about three months ago. Ten of the 15 Congress MLAs joined the BJP. Now again a statement from the head of state Pramod Samvat has warmed the political atmosphere in the state. He said that the possibility that some more opposition leaders could come into his ranks could not be ruled out. Goa Government Ports Minister Michael Lobo, who came to attend Congress MLA Alexio Reginaldo Lorenco on his 50th birthday, claimed that Lorenko could be made the Deputy Chief Minister of the state in the near future.
However, he refused to give further details. It is known that CM Sawant did not rule out the possibility that Lorenko could join the BJP. On the question asked on Lobo's claim, Sawant said that everything is possible in politics. You never know. I said everything is possible. When asked Lorenko, he said that he had no intention of leaving Congress. The Congress now has five and the BJP 27 in the 40-member Goa Legislative Assembly. The remaining seats are occupied by Independents, NCP, Goa Forward Party and Maharashtra Gomantak Party. Despite having fewer seats in the assembly elections, the B BJP was successful in coming to power in the state.
