New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and MLA from Maharashtra, Raosaheb Antapurkar, died in a hospital in Mumbai due to health complications. He was 64 years old. Party sources said on Saturday that Antapurkar died in a hospital in Bombay on Friday night. Several parts of his body had stopped functioning and he was on a ventilator from April 1. Antapurkar was elected MLA twice from the Degalur constituency in Nanded district.
Party sources said that the MLA was found positive on 19 March and was initially admitted to a hospital in Nanded, but was later admitted to a hospital in Bombay on 22 March. Sources said he was confirmed to be free of infection in his March 28 Corona report, but had to be kept in the ICU due to health complications. His lungs and kidneys were affected by the infection.
The funeral of Antapurkar will be held in his native village Antapur on Saturday. An engineer by profession, Antapurkar had quit his job to take Congress membership and won the 2009 assembly election from Degalur. He suffered a defeat in 2014, but he again emerged victorious in 2019. He is survived by his mother, wife, two married daughters, and a son.
