Congress President Nilesh Jain Booked Over His 'haath Todo' remarks

BHOPAL: A Congress functionary in Madhya Pradesh was arrested on Friday over his alleged offensive comments calling for "breaking the hands of the corrupt" if they don't listen to people, the official said.

Congress Jabalpur district president Nilesh Jain was booked on a complaint lodged by Jabalpur district Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha president Rajmani Singh, they said.

Inspector S L Verma of Shahpura police station said the media over the phone that Singh said in his complaint that Jain shouted at an event, 'Haath jodo nahi mane to bhrastachari ke haath todo' ((fold hands and if they don't listen, then break the corrupt person's wrists).

Verma said, the Congress politician has been charged under two sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 504 (Intentional insult with purpose to provoke disturbance of the peace).

Jain made the alleged remakrs during his party public meeting held in Jabalpur on Thursday, the police officer said, citing the complaint. 

The Congress began a new statewide mass contact programme, 'Haath Se Haath Jodo,' on January 26.
