New Delhi: After the conclusion of the final phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Saturday, which marked the culmination of the world's largest polling exercise initiated on April 19, Congress leader Ajay Maken raised concerns regarding a new regulation prohibiting candidates' counting agents from being present at the Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) tables during the vote counting process scheduled for June 4. Maken emphasized the gravity of this issue, labeling it as "bigger than the alleged EVM rigging," and called upon the Election Commission of India to address it promptly.
In response to Maken's concerns, the Chief Election Officer of Delhi clarified that the counting agents of candidates are indeed permitted at the tables of RO and AROs, dispelling any misconceptions.
The extensive seven-phase polling process for the Lok Sabha elections commenced on April 19 and concluded on June 1 with the seventh and final phase of polling across seven states and the Union Territory of Chandigarh. According to the Election Commission (ECI), the voter turnout for this final phase was approximately 62.36 per cent.
Expressing gratitude to all stakeholders involved, including voters, polling personnel, security forces, media, and political parties, the Election Commission of India acknowledged their contributions as the 7th Phase of polling concluded.
Throughout the preceding six phases of Lok Sabha elections held on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, and May 25, voters actively participated in shaping the democratic process.
Exit polls conducted following the conclusion of the elections projected a resounding victory for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), suggesting a significant improvement in performance compared to previous elections. With predictions hinting at the possibility of surpassing the "400 paar" milestone set by BJP leaders, the NDA is poised to strengthen its position in the Lok Sabha, aiming to secure a third consecutive term in power.
