Gandhinagar: After the resignation of three Congress MLAs, resort politics has started in Gujarat ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections to be held on June 19. Fearing horse trading, the Congress has sent 15 of its MLAs to a resort in Anand in Gujarat itself. Congress leader Bharat Singh Solanki has been given the responsibility of taking out the MLAs.

The legislators were placed at the Arius Riverside Resort before being sent to Anand. Solanki also spoke to the legislators who stayed in the hotel. Earlier on Saturday, some MLAs of Gujarat Congress also visited Wildwinds Resort on Abu Road in Rajasthan. After the resignation of Akshay Patel and Jeetu Chaudhary on June 3 and Brijesh Merja on June 5, the number of Congress legislators in the 182-member house has come down to 65. The House currently has 172 members while ten seats are vacant. Of these, two seats are vacant due to court cases and the rest resignations.

He said that senior Congress leaders would churn with the MLAs and discuss the current situation and the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. Doshi said that MLAs can stay in these resorts for the four Rajya Sabha seats in Gujarat till the election day on June 19. Earlier, the Congress had shifted its MLAs to a resort in Jaipur in March this year, when five of them resigned before the Rajya Sabha elections on 26 March. Elections were postponed due to lockdown due to coronovirus.
