Congress Skips Ayodhya Ram Temple Opening, Labels it 'RSS/BJP Event'

Congress intends to skip the inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on January 22, citing it as an "RSS/BJP event." Party President Mallikarjun Kharge, along with senior leaders Sonia Gandhi and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, will not be present at the event, as mentioned in a party statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

Despite receiving invitations to attend the ceremony, the Congress party accuses the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of turning the Ayodhya temple into a "political project." The party claims that while Lord Ram is worshipped by millions in the country, the RSS/BJP has exploited the temple for political purposes, rushing the inauguration for electoral gains.

Respecting the 2019 Supreme Court judgment and the sentiments of millions who hold Lord Ram dear, Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury have declined the invitation, terming it a clear RSS/BJP event.

In response to the Congress's decision, the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) stated that it's the grand old party's choice not to attend Ram Lalla's event, and they respect that decision.

Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai announced his plan to visit Ayodhya for Ram Lalla darshan and a holy bath in the Saryu river on January 15, Makar Sankranti. However, he clarified that he has not received an invitation to the consecration ceremony.

The Ram Temple inauguration is scheduled for January 22, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and over 6,000 attendees, including celebrities and industrialists, expected at the 'Pran Pratistha' ceremony. The temple's first phase is nearly complete, and preparations are in full swing, with gifts pouring in from various parts of the country and abroad.
