As the municipal body election date approaches, the Karimganj district Congress seemed to be ready for a confrontation as the Opposition party held a dharna in front of the municipality office. Congress urged a comprehensive inquiry on Tuesday, alleging a massive corruption during the last BJP Board.
The Congress claimed that the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was used to perpetrate a Rs 55 lakh scam. Project Jyoti, a Rs 28 lakh roadside electrification scheme in the town, was allegedly found to have several flaws. The BJP had 15 commissioners on the 27-ward Karimganj Municipality board.
Last week, Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy paid a visit to Karimganj, pledging that if any financial irregularities were discovered in the former BJP-led Board, a thorough probe would be initiated.
