Congress stalwart and 6-time former Amritsar MP RL Bhatia dies of Covid

Amritsar: Congress veteran Raghunandan Lal Bhatia, commonly known as RL Bhatia, died of Covid here on Saturday. He was completed centuary and would have turned 101 on July 3. 

Bhatia He was born into a prosperous business family which has a sprawling home on the iconic Mall Road here, set up by the British during the Colonial period.

 He represented the Amritsar parliamentary constituency six times from 1972, and was the Governor of Kerala from 2004 to 2008 and of Bihar from 2008 to 2009.

He had an illustrious political career as he represented the Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency six times and also remained a Minister of State for External Affairs. He was also twice appointed a Governor.

MP Manish Tewari paid a visit to Bhatia at his residence in December last year to enquire about his well-being along with Amritsar MP Gurjeet Aujla. In a tweet after the meeting, Tewari wrote, "Spent some wonderful time in his company, marvelling at his memory and recollection of events, even at this age!"
