In a close contest with BJP, Congress has won the Mungaoli assembly seat in which  Brijendra Singh Yadav of Congress defeated Baai Sahab Yadav of Bhartiya Janata Party with a margin of 2124 votes.

Congress is also leading in Kolaras with a margin of 4066 votes after 13th round of counting and is likely to win this seat too.

This has emerged as a huge and significant victory for the Congress, who does not have a stronghold in the BJP ruled state. The victory can be credited to the fan base of MP Jyotiraditya Scindia which has overpowered Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s foothold in the state.

Following the victory, Jyotiraditya Scindia may be announced as the chief ministerial candidate in the upcoming Madhya Pradesh state assembly polls in December this year.

The figures, since the counting started, hinted at Congress’ win with the party leading after every round of counting votes. Party workers had already gathered at party office in Bhopal for celebrations after Congress took the lead in Mungaoli.

Both the seats were held by Congress leaders until their death which led to by-polls. The counting process was interrupted when Congress alleged that an electronic voting machine is found tampered.
