New Delhi: Speculations are rife in the Congress about the congress party's national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra being sent to the Rajya Sabha. Priyanka Gandhi has been in active politics since 2017 and is in charge of Uttar Pradesh. So far, however, she has not been a member of either House. In such a situation, Congress strategists say that Priyanka Gandhi should be sent to the Upper House so that she can vocally defend the party in Parliament.
The talks between the Congress leadership and the state units over the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections have intensified. In states like Haryana, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, Congress is in a position to win some seats. At present, which leaders should be given tickets from these seats is under consideration. Meanwhile, some leaders have proposed to send Priyanka Gandhi to the Rajya Sabha. However, so far, Priyanka Gandhi or any other family member has not said anything in this regard.
No other party leader has openly made any statement on this, but the discussions inside are intense. Congress sources believe that Priyanka Gandhi was also being considered earlier to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Amethi or Rae Bareli. But now the intention seems to be changing. This is because in the situation of the Congress in Uttar Pradesh, it is also risky to win the Lok Sabha elections in these seats, which have once been the strongholds of the Gandhi-Nehru family.
