Tiruchi: Mukkombu Barrage and Butterfly Park, both located on the banks of the Cauvery, are two of the most popular vacation spots in Tiruchi. Despite being within a radius of 10 kms, it has become difficult to visit both the places in a day. In this context, the need for a development project to connect the two ends of the Kaveri River Tiruchi-Karur Highway and Tiruchi-Namakkal Highway has arisen again. Tourists are not likely to visit both the places on the same day.

A traveler going to either place has to take a 25-km detour via Chhatiram Bus Station to reach the opposite bank of the Kaveri, and it takes about 45 minutes. A proposal to build a bridge connecting the two ends of the Cauvery from Allur to Butterfly Park was made a few years back. However, the project never took off due to the high cost of land acquisition and the estimated cost of the project. In light of these concerns, the Forest Service is now considering whether a rope car-like facility can be started instead of a bridge.

The work of repairing the narrow Kolidam flood bank road running parallel to Kaveri and Kolidam is also underway. According to a representative of the forest department, the road along the floodplain is being repaired. However, they are unsure whether it will be able to reduce the prevalence of cars and large appliances. They are looking at bringing in a rope-car-like facility as it is less expensive to build. They will examine the demand and take appropriate steps.
