Kolkata: An employee of Vikas Bhawan has been arrested in connection with the smuggling of explosives on a large scale in West Bengal. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Mir Mohammad Nuruzzaman from Vikas Bhavan. He was posted as a software engineer in Vikas Bhavan. It is alleged that he smuggled thousands of gelatin sticks and ammonium nitrate bags in connivance with the Bengal Police. The NIA had earlier arrested a person named Mehrajuddin in this incident. According to NIA sources, the arrested Nooruzzaman was supplying explosives in collaboration with the police.

According to media reports, the police have arrested a person in connection with the recovery of 81,000 gelatin sticks and 27,000 kg of ammonium nitrate in Mohammadbazar, Birbhum. On the basis of the information received after interrogating that person, the team also raided Raniganj and Rajarhat. According to NIA sources, almost all the stone quarries in Birbhum's Mohammadbazar were run with stolen explosives.

NIA officials reached Nooruzzaman's New Town flat on Friday (March 31), but could not find him. After which, NIA officials reached his office, from where Noorajjaman was arrested.
