Constitution Day is observed in India on November 26, every year to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. The Day is also known as the 'Samvidhan Divas'. The Constitution of India is the longest written constitution of any sovereign country in the world. It also aims to make awareness of Fundamental Duties incorporated in the Constitution. An important part of the celebrations today is the reading of the Preamble to the Constitution and reaffirming our commitment to upholding its ideology
On this day in 1949, the Constitution of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly and on January 26, 1950 it came into force. The Constitution declares India a "sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic and to secure to all its citizens' justice, social, economic and political; liberty of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship; equality of status and of opportunity; and to promote among them all fraternity assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the nation."
