AYODHYA: In Ayodhya, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has begun work on the Maryada Purshottam Shri Ram Airport.

The construction bids have been finalised, and Vishal Infrastructure, based in Bengaluru, which won the bid for the runway building, has begun work under the supervision of the AAI. Rajeev Kulshreshtha, the AAI's project in-charge, and three other officials have taken over.

The AAI has already appointed the director of the Ayodhya airport, Lalji, and two assistant general managers. The first phase of the project, according to AAI officials, will be completed in one and a half to two years and will cost Rs 150 crore. A 2,250-meter runway for ATR-72 aircraft must be built in the first phase of the project.

The project's foundation stone was to be laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but the ceremony was cancelled due to the implementation of the model code of conduct for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on January 8.

According to officials, the Ayodhya airport would be built in three phases, requiring approximately 550 acres of land. The existing airport and terminal in Ayodhya account for 182 acres of this total. The Uttar Pradesh government has granted Rs 321 crore to purchase additional land after the Centre provided Rs 250 crore for the development of the Ayodhya airport.
