Lahore: A Pakistani court has sentenced a Christian youth to death for alleged blasphemy. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on him. The Christian youth has been identified as Nauman Masih (19), a resident of Islami Colony in Bahawalpur. According to the police, Nauman was arrested four years ago on the basis of a complaint, after which he was in jail.
According to the report, the accused had shared blasphemous content on a messaging app. Giving details of the case, an official said that the sessions court sentenced the accused to death after the prosecution presented evidence and witnesses against him. The prosecution had produced forensic records of the cellphones. From which it was proved that he had shared blasphemous content through WhatsApp. Some witnesses were also produced in the court, who testified in the court that the accused had shared blasphemous material. However, there have been many cases of blasphemy in Pakistan before. Where the accused were beaten to death by the mob even before the legal proceedings could begin. On May 7 last month, such a case came to light from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Earlier on March 24, 2023, a Muslim man in Pakistan was sentenced to death for blasphemous content on a WhatsApp group. He was convicted by a Peshawar court under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act and the Anti-Terrorism Act.
