A two-part, four-hour documentary describing shocking accusations of child sexual abuse made against the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, was the most talked-about film at the Sundance Film Festival, which is now taking place in Park City, Utah. The main focus of Leaving Neverland is on the lives of Wade Robson and James Safechuck, two men Michael Jackson befriended when they were young and who later became among his staunchest defenders in the wake of child molestation allegations in 1993 and 2003. They didn't individually come out with their own allegations of abuse by the pop legend and sue the singer's estate until several years after Jackson's 2009 passing.
James (Jimmy) Safechuck, a 10-year-old California boy, is selected to appear with Michael Jackson in a Pepsi commercial. In Leaving Neverland, Safechuck claims that after the commercial aired, Jackson made friends with him and his family, was immediately kind to him, and allegedly started showering him with presents, including, according to Safechuck, his jacket from the "Thriller" video. Jackson started flying Safechuck and his family for visits and vacations, according to Safechuck and his family. In other incidents, on a trip to Hawaii, Safechuck allegedly said that Michael Jackson first asked the boy to sleep with him in his bed.
A Police book Jackson on child molestation charges revealed that Jackson was indicted on 10 criminal counts, including child molestation, abduction, false imprisonment and extortion.
The Jackson estate denounced the documentary as “yet another lurid production in an outrageous and pathetic attempt to exploit and cash in on Michael Jackson” with “just another rehash of dated and discredited allegations.” The movie Leaving Neverland has undoubtedly reignited interest in the earlier accusations of child sexual abuse that came close to overshadowing Michael Jackson's hugely successful career. Taking a glance back, now.
Jackson is put on trial after being charged in late 2003 and then receiving more charges in April of the following year. Gavin Arvizo, a young guy who participated in the Bashir documentary, is named as the victim and will testify in the case.
After the comedy show life trial, the singer is cleared of all allegations. At least some of the jury members appear to blame Janet Arvizo, the mother of the alleged victim. in line with NPR. According to NPR, one of the female jurors questioned what mother in her right mind would permit a child to sleep with any non-family member.
