United Nations Climate Change Conference 2023:A 12-year-old climate activist named Licypriya made a strong statement at the United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP28, in Dubai. She held up a sign demanding an end to the use of fossil fuels to save the planet and our future. Although her brief speech against fossil fuel use received applause from the audience, she was taken away by authorities afterward.

The head of COP28, Ambassador Majid Al Suwaidi, praised the passion of young participants and encouraged applause for Licypriya. She shared a video of the incident on a platform, expressing that she was detained for more than 30 minutes for peacefully protesting against fossil fuels, calling it a violation of her rights as a child.

Licypriya further questioned why her credentials were taken away, emphasizing that speaking out against fossil fuels is essential. She believes her voice should be heard within the UN, denouncing the actions as an attempt to silence her. Despite being barred from COP28, she vowed to return stronger.

The United Nations talks in the UAE have limitations on public protests, including restrictions on certain organized groups. A new draft agreement presented to countries did not directly address the phasing out of fossil fuels, a crucial demand from the European Union and vulnerable developing nations affected by climate change.
