The Manpada police arrested a 33-year-old woman who allegedly robbed the house of a police constable by pretending to be a police official herself. Police investigating the case said the accused had become acquainted with the constable’s wife on Facebook. Police further said that the accused, Bhakti Shinde, alias Sarika Shinde, used to frequently visit the constable's residence, and allegedly stole jewelry and cash of Vidisha Rajvardhan Wagh, the constable's wife. Vidisha Rajvardhan Wagh filed a complaint with the police after realizing that she was robbed. Shinde was arrested on Sunday.

“Shinde knew a lot of high-profile people and even showed me photos of herself with them. She used to talk to a lot of leaders in Dombivali, so I thought she was a genuine policewoman. She told me she was a three-star officer and even showed me photos and an ID card,” Wagh said. “Shinde would visit Wagh’s house, claiming she had been suspended due to personal problems. She gained Wagh’s sympathy, and then stole valuables from her,” said Nasir Kulkarni, police inspector, Manpada police station.

"On April 3 too, she visited my house. When I went down to buy groceries, she asked my daughter to go down and call me, and then stole jewelry and a mobile phone from my house," Wagh added. “On Wagh’s complaint, we arrested Shinde and found that she was posing as a police official, and had a duplicate ID card. She was also arrested in the past for cheating people on the same pretext. She was married thrice, each time after claiming to be a cop. Her third husband lodged a complaint against her for cheating at Koparkhairane police station,” said a police official from Manpada police station. Wagh's husband is a constable at Ghatkopar police station.
