HYDERABAD: Biological E. Ltd (BE) stated on Monday that the price of its Covid-19 vaccine corbevax for private Covid-19 vaccination centres has been cut from Rs 840 to Rs 250 per dose, inclusive of GST. The cost to the end user would be Rs 400 per dose, including taxes and administrative fees. The Hyderabad-based company said it reduced the price of its vaccine to make it cheaper and to assist expand its reach to protect as many youngsters as possible from the virus.
The judgement came just weeks after Biological E. was granted an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for youngsters aged 5 to 12. The prior private market pricing for the vaccine, including taxes and vaccination administration fees, was Rs 990 per dose.
Corbrvax is also available in a single-dose vial, making vaccination administration easier. It reduces vaccination waste, which is a significant benefit for private facilities. Children aged 12 to 17 can book a Corbevax immunisation slot through the Co-WIN app or the Co-WIN web.
Corbevax has been administered to 43.9 million children across the country, with Biological E. supplying close to 100 million pills to the government. Biological E. has produced a recombinant protein sub-unit vaccine for the new coronavirus Corbevax in conjunction with Texas Children's Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine. The company conducted Phase 2 and 3 multicentre clinical trials in 624 children aged 5 to 12 and 12 to 18 years old before receiving EUA for vaccination.
