Pune: Amidst corona crisis, Serum Institute of India will soon apply to drug controller and General of India to allow clinical trial of Covovax corona vaccine on children. Covovax is the Indian version of corona vaccine developed by us-based Novavax Inc. and is being manufactured by SII based in Pune in India.
Covovax is the second vaccine being made by serum, the first is the Oxford-Astrazeneca corona vaccine, known as the 'covicshield' made by SII in India. Serum Institute of India (SII) CEO Adar Poonawala had said on Friday that the first batch of Corona Vaccine Kovowax developed by Novawax Inc. is being produced at SII's Pune Lab.
Poonawala tweeted, "Excited to see the first consignment of The Kovowax (developed by Novawax) being manufactured this week in our plots in Pune. This vaccine has a great potential to protect our future generations under the age of 18. The trials are on. The Serum India team has done a good job". He had said in March this year that clinical trial of The Covowax vaccine has started in India and the company expects to introduce it by September this year.
