New Delhi: Dr. Poonam Khetrapal Singh (Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh), Regional Director, South-East Asia, World Health Organization (World Health Organization), issued a statement last Friday saying, "The threat of Covid-19 (Covid-19) remains high globally. The emergence of variants is a reminder that the epidemic is not over yet. He also said, 'It appears that The Omicron (Omicron) is spreading very fast.'' He also said, "Emerging South African figures show that the risk of re-infection with omicrons has increased. '

He further said, 'However, more data is required to draw concrete conclusions. There is still limited data on clinical severity associated with omicrons. More details are expected about the seriousness of the case involving Omicron in the coming weeks. He also said, "Preliminary data shows that the omicron variant may reduce the effectiveness of vaccines against infection. It will take a few more weeks to have enough evidence to fully assess the vaccines' performance against Omicron.. Even if omicron causes less serious illness we should not take it lightly.'' He also said that the number of cases may once again affect the health system. '

Earlier last Thursday, the Who Regional Director had warned that the variant cannot be dismissed as "light" as it is spreading rapidly. Now, last Friday, Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh spoke about the danger and new symptoms of omicron, saying, 'The overall threat posed by Omicron largely depends on three key questions: (1) how Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 variant is; (2) how well vaccine and SARS-CoV-2 protect against transmission, disease and death of infection; And (3) How much of the variant is viral as compared to other variants? '
