Chandigarh: Punjab Government has ordered private hospitals, clinics and labs to conduct rapid antigen tests for corona. In a statement, Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu said that "A guideline has been issued by the health departments to the group deputy commissioners and civil surgeons of the state to conduct rapid antigen tests for the corona".

The test kits will be given free from the department concerned. Civil surgeons will list private hospitals, clinics and labs that are ready to voluntarily work for testing with kits provided free of cost by the department. The health minister said that if the kits are made available by the health department, private hospitals will take a maximum of Rs 250 for tests from the patients.

The price of rapid antigen testing for private labs, which are using its own kits, was reduced from Rs 1000 to Rs 700, including GST and other taxes. Private hospitals and labs will cradle SOPs for use of RAT kits provided free of cost by the Department of Health and Family Welfare. Sidhu said that the Department of Health and Family Welfare has given RAT kits free of cost to private hospitals and labs.
