The Food Corporation of India (FCI) plays an important role in tackling the challenges of nationwide lockdown. The functioning of the department has greatly helped in the outbreak of Coronavirus. The FCI has started the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana included in the announcement of the relief package to the poor and deprived sections. In the first two days of the financial year 2020-21, more than one and a half lakh tonnes of food grains have been sent to various states, including both wheat and rice, from more than one hundred racks of railway freight trains.

On this matter, official sources of the FCI say that since March 24, 2020, on the day of the announcement of the three-week lockdown, more than 11 lakh tonnes of foodgrains have been transported through 400 racks of the train. These grains have been sent from the FCI's various godowns to their sites on the demands of the states. Due to Corona, rail freight trains are being used to meet the huge demand for food grains in the implemented lockdown. That is why while the government has suspended operation of all types of passenger trains, trains are being run fearlessly to ensure the freight.

By taking advantage of the lockdown, the government has put FCI in order to tighten the hoarders and control inflation. Open sales have been increased in the domestic open commodity market. All the state governments are being supplied with enough grain to their roller floor mills. So that there is no shortage of food grains like rice and wheat in the market.
